Early & Ongoing Aquatic Therapy for the Total Knee Replacement: 10 Tips & Tricks for Your Evidence-Based Skill-set (PT & OT)

Live Webinar | November 14 | 12–2 PM ET

Instructor: Andrea Salzman, MS, PT

A growing body of research is reshaping how rehabilitation specialists view aquatic therapy following total knee arthroplasty. Multiple recent studies show that while aquatic therapy within the first week after surgery can safely improve mobility and strength, many clinicians still delay pool therapy until two weeks post-op—mostly due to outdated infection concerns and inconsistent wound-care protocols.

Yet, when delivered under controlled conditions, early aquatic immersion offers distinct biomechanical advantages: buoyancy reduces joint loading, hydrostatic pressure decreases swelling, and warm water promotes relaxation of protective muscle guarding. For many post-surgical patients, these effects allow faster gait retraining and earlier independence than land-based therapy alone.

On November 14 (12–2 PM Eastern), join Andrea Salzman, MS, PT, founder of Aquatic Therapy University, for a two-hour webinar (plus 1 hour post-seminar training) exploring:

  • When and why aquatic therapy may be the treatment of choice after knee replacement

  • Evidence-based precautions and contraindications for early immersion

  • Documentation and payer language that demonstrate medical necessity

If you treat orthopedic, post-surgical, or pain-limited clients, this course will help you translate current research into safe, reimbursable, real-world aquatic practice.
